Image
The leaders of terrorist organisations in South Asia region continue to spread hatred against India through internet platforms and social media and raise funds through fake charities, crowdfunding and by portraying themselves as humanitarian NGOs and non-profit organisations, India told the Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) of the United Nations' Security Council on Monday. The CTC open briefing started with remarks from Ambassador T S Tirumurti, the Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations who is also the chief of the Counter-Terrorism Committee. It was attended by officials from the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), INTERPOL, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and representatives from the Member States of South and South-East Asia.   India's statement was delivered by Rajesh Parihar, Counsellor at India's Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, who, at the very outset, reminded the attendees about the 40 brave men of Indian secur

Pakistan takes U-turn on Afghanistan-- ISI chief now meets anti-Taliban warlords in Turkey

Image
It seems the honeymoon between Pakistan's military establishment and the Taliban government is over. In a fresh move to put pressure on the Taliban leaders, the chief of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, Lt. General Nadim Ahmad Anjum has approached the anti-Taliban leaders. Last week the new chief of the ISI met Afghan warlords Marshall Dostam, Nadim Ahmad Anjum and  Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq in Ankara - the capital of Turkey. The meeting took place at the request of Anjum to discuss Pakistan's concerns about the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, reports the Persian edition of The Independent. Citing sources, the daily says that Anjum and two of his deputies met the three anti-Taliban leaders who are founders of anti-Taliban National Resistance Council of Afghanistan (ANRC). In the meeting, General Anjum told the three leaders about his dissatisfaction with the current situation in Afghanistan and the Taliban's reluctance to form a cohesive structure, including all ethnic

Pakistani Generals accuse Taliban govt of sheltering anti-Pakistan groups as 5 soldiers killed in attack

The Pakistani army has publically accused the Taliban government of giving shelter to terrorists who are carrying out attacks on Pakistan from Afghan soil. "Terrorists from inside Afghanistan across the international border, opened fire on Pakistani troops in Kurram District. Pakistani troops responded in a "befitting" manner causing heavy causalities to terrorists, however, as a result of the exchange of fire, five Pakistani soldiers were martyred," read a statement issued by the Pakistani army’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday. Though the Taliban has denied the firing had come from within Afghan territory, the Pakistani Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said that the attack was launched by militants of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) who are given shelter by the Taliban in Afghanistan. He told the media that till now Pakistan has been down playing the incidents but now the situation has gone out of control. “Pakistan is running out o

Taliban’s appeal to Muslim nations to recognise their government is likely to fail

Image
Unable to get recognition from any country, the Taliban are reaching out to Muslim countries to recognise their new government in Afghanistan. “I call on Muslim countries to take the lead and recognise us officially. Then I hope we will be able to develop quickly,” said  Mohammad Hassan Akhund, the regime’s Prime Minister. No country has yet recognised the Taliban, with most waiting  to see how the group - accused of human rights abuses during their first stint in power - performs. Despite the claims made by the Taliban that they have fulfilled all the conditions of the world to get the government recognised, the ground realities are totally different. Although Taliban leaders have pledged to govern the country differently, they have not yet allowed most women to return to public sector jobs. While schoolboys were allowed to resume classes in September, secondary schools for girls across Afghanistan have remained shuttered. The women have been staging almost daily protests to demand

No money to hire female teachers so girls can’t study, says Taliban Minister

It has been more than 100 days and Afghan girls are still not allowed to attend school and college classes by the Taliban government which had promised that their new regime would be different from the old one of Mullah Omar. In a new diktat, the Taliban’s Higher Education Minister Abdul Baqi Haqqani says “co-education is unislamic” and the regime will not allow the concept of men and women studying together. Without specifying the time line, Haqqani said that the Taliban government has to make separate classes for girls and hire extra women lecturers that need more time and extra budget, reported Khaama Press. The former student of “Jihad Factory”, the Darul Uloom Haqqaniya Madrasa in Pakistan, Abdul Baqi Haqqani made it clear that this not on their priority list and refused to answer that when girls might return to school and university classes across the country.
